Getting working on an idea I have..... I have a great performance opportunity in the Champaign, IL community at an empty warehouse space. Totally my aesthetic....concrete, brick walls, cool grimy windows. Time to create a challenge and be a bit more conceptual. So here goes! I kept envisioning a big skirt that was a bit cumbersome but still provided the ability to move. Lots of texture, a bit of grit, and definitely something that I could handle making! Through general measurement ideas and a small budget; muslin was the best option. Layered with tulle and plastic tablecloth the creation is under way!
What a wonderful way to revisit my roots! I was honored and excited to take part in the Paula Aubry School of Dance 'Celebrate the Journey - Dance 14'. Amy Morris created this event to give the dancers and community an opportunity to see a variety of genres of dance performance in their community. An evening consisted of local dance studios performing as well as guest artists such as myself and company performances by Visceral Dance Chicago. The show was followed by a day of master classes for the area kids to participate! What a great opportunity to give fresh ideas and new experiences in dance for these teens! |
